The Lost Boys Report

"Where are all the good men? Where are all the strong men? Why does it feel like I’m swimming in a sea of boys, where are the men?" I get these questions all the time, and I want to give you my honest answer.

We stopped raising those men years ago. We stopped teaching boys how to become men decades ago, and now, as a society, we are reaping the consequences. This isn’t just my opinion; new research out of the UK, called the "Lost Boys" report, examined this exact issue, and the findings are damning.

Our boys and men are struggling with employment, education, mental health, and relationships. There are so many reasons for this, whether it's because many boys lack positive role models, or the fact that boys have more access to smartphones than their biological fathers, or because they are increasingly socially isolated and struggle to find purpose. It could also be the fact that 93% of boys are exposed to pornography before the age of 18, with the average age of first exposure being 12 years old.

I know this is difficult to hear, but if we want the return of good, strong men, we have to look honestly at where and why things have gone wrong. Our boys and men are struggling, and as a society, we need to pay attention. I implore you to look up the key findings of the "Lost Boys" report and give this population the same care, attention, and advocacy as we would any other struggling community.
